Vent'anni dopo l'attacco massivo e distruttivo che ha falciato tre miliardi di persone sulla terra, David Levinson, specialista in telecomunicazioni ieri, direttore del settore Ricerca e Sviluppo oggi, scopre la minaccia di una prossima invasione aliena. Non ha bisogno invece di strumenti sofisticati per avvertire il nemico alieno, Thomas J. Whitmore, ex presidente degli States rimpiazzato dal presidente Lanford, una donna strategicamente incapace che si affida ai suoi generali. È Whitmore ad avvisare le nazioni in diretta mondiale e a gettarle nel più totale sconforto. Ma 'i nostri' non mancheranno di arrivare coalizzati e muniti di tecnologia extraterrestre, recuperata nella precedente invasione. Contro la monumentale forza dell'avversario si schierano due piloti rivali e un ex presidente eroico, disposto a tutto pur di preservare il suo pianeta e proteggere sua figlia. Dopo Sotto assedio - White House Down, blockbuster pirotecnico che ha come unico decor la Casa Bianca, già attaccata da Roland Emmerich in Independence Day - The Day After Tomorrow e 2012, l'autore riprende le vecchie (e remunerative) abitudini realizzando il seguito di Independence Day. La versione del 1996, patacca votata alla gloria degli Stati Uniti, confrontata al suo epigono fa la figura del capolavoro. Vent'anni dopo, Emmerich e la sua cricca di alieni inscenano un come-back che non aggiunge niente, nemmeno il conforto consueto di vedere salvare, ancora una volta, il mondo. Sul piano ideologico poi si scivola da Bush a Trump. L'unico argomento progressista del film è una donna Presidente degli Stati Uniti ma il personaggio manca ovviamente di carisma e visione strategica e si fa ammazzare al primo attacco alieno. Il Capo di stato maggiore la rimpiazza mentre il presidente 'scaduto' lotta, cade e si rialza come Mazinga, che ha la mente di Bill Pullman "ma tutto il resto fa da sé". Al suo fianco combatte il pilota di Liam Hemsworth, che condivide col più celebre fratello (Thor) la discesa in picchiata sulla terra a 'miracol mostrare' e fanciulla salvare. Piaccia o no, il cinema di Emmerich ha conosciuto un successo planetario e refrattario alla peggior critica. Re indiscusso del catastrofico trash dopato con effetti speciali digitali, il regista tedesco traslocato a Hollywood ha prodotto una domanda alla quale nessuno come lui ha risposto e alimentato un genere a cui ha contribuito più di chiunque altro (Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012). E la familiarità che il pubblico intrattiene oggi con il genere è la maledizione e la fortuna insieme di Independence Day: Rigenerazione. Maledizione perché non c'è più niente da inventare e praticamente più materia per impressionare, fortuna perché il film mantiene saldo il patto con lo spettatore, che non cerca più novità e incantamento ma prova riconoscenza. Forse perché nei film di Emmerich c'è sempre spazio (e amore) per la massa, una logica inclusiva in cui tutto il mondo trova il suo posto, come i bambini nello school bus condotto da Judd Hirsch. Una generosità genuina che trapela nei dialoghi di Jeff Goldblum, in ogni apparizione di Bill Pullman o nella relazione aerea tra Liam Hemsworth e Jessie T. Usher, che rimpiazzano con riverenza il carisma di Will Smith.

At one point Floyd says he wants one of Dikembe's katanas. Dikembe's blades are machetes. <br>------------------------<br><br>When inside the alien spacecraft, the character Rain Lao informs Jake Morrison that he has "20 seconds...max!" to leave the aircraft before the doors close. However, they don't leave for nearly a minute, and still make it out intact. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Julius is seen piloting his boat, he's in the cabin steering. The tidal wave from the incoming alien craft rises up behind him, slams forward, cut away. When the kids are driving by afterward, they find him strapped into the fishing chair on the upper deck, unconscious. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the squadron is inside the alien ship, Jake submerges himself in water to hide, completely flattening his hair. In the next scene, he's completely dry and his hair is styled again. <br>------------------------<br><br>When David sits next to Jake in the Tug (at 30 min and 10 seconds), Jake goes from putting on his seat belt to having his seat belt fastened and headset on within a second (after Jake says, "I haven't crashed in a couple of days"). <br>------------------------<br><br>The Singapore police are heard making announcements in Chinese instead of Singapore's official language of English. The taxis are also incorrect - Singaporean taxis are blue, and are Right-Hand Drive vehicles, since Singaporean traffic travels on the left-hand side of the road. The taxis depicted in the film are Left-Hand Drive and so would not be used in Singapore. In addition, the geographic location of the Marina Bay Sands complex in relation to Singapore's financial district is inaccurate. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the alien mothership landing on earth, it fly from east to west. Across Asia, Europe, Atlantic Ocean, then towards east coast of US. However when it stop at north lawn of White House, it looks like the ship was fly from north toward south. <br>------------------------<br><br>Once the squadron is inside the massive mothership, and an Electro-Magnetic Pulse is triggered which takes out all the electrical systems on the fighters, their radio equipment still functions. <br>------------------------<br><br>A space ship that has enough mass to pull skyscrapers upwards and off of the planet's surface, should also cause huge disruptions in both Earth's atmosphere and plate tectonics, as well as in the Earth's very rotation. The damage implied in the movie is insignificant compared to what would actually happen (e.g. the seismic shockwave alone would measure hundreds of miles in the amplitude; the oceans would be evaporated; the crust would tear all over the planet, rotation axis and speed would dramatically change) and when the ship finally leaves the Earth, the planet looks quite unscathed by the "interaction". <br>------------------------<br><br>When alien ship is using "plasma drill" to get to the Earth core there are several mistakes/errors shown:1. Using such a drill in the ocean would vaporize huge amounts of water, causing fog to raise and obscure the view in very large area, not to mention storms that would follow.2. Earth inner core begins 3100-3900 miles below surface, depending on location. The treasure hunters' boat is shown having a sonar equipment for underwater search. Such equipment is totally incapable of showing drilling progress with thousands miles depths involved. Furthermore, the boat's sonar shows a reflection seismic survey backdrop, which is used in oil exploration and has a depth of investigation of a few kilometers at best.3. How can one calculate exact moment of reaching core when depth of the core in every specific spot on earth is unknown? It is only known it is in 3100-3900 miles range, yet time to reach when drilling is calculated to the seconds, while it should have at least 25% error margin. <br>------------------------<br><br>Dr. Okun wakes up after having been in a coma for 20 years, jumps out of bed and runs around as though nothing happened. A person in a coma for 20 years would suffer from muscle atrophy and barely be able to speak, assuming they were capable of any movement at all. <br>------------------------<br><br>The mothership is so massive that it has gravity strong enough to destroy and lift skyscrapers. Such strong gravity would be enough to contract the ship into a rough ball; no structural material would be strong enough to resist it. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the air force fighter helmets the USA flag on the right side is shown backwards (stars at the top left corner). The rule is that the flag should never be shown retreating. The correct way for the flag is to have the stars in the top right corner. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Jake Morrison and David Levinson approach, and later stand in, the Van de Graaff Crater, which is actually two craters, it is shown as one round crater. <br>------------------------<br><br>During all physical activity on the lunar base, there is never any account for the fact that the moon's gravity is only 83.3% of the Earth's. Contrast this with the mass of a human body being the same, it's not taken into account. For example, if Jake were to run towards a wall in a corridor on the base, he would have a difficult time stopping before impact due to this change. <br>------------------------<br><br>The Marina Bay Sands hotel in the Singapore scene is incorrectly modeled. The 3 "legs" of the hotel are each split at the base and eventually join as they each rise towards to top of the building (each leg is like a curved inverted "V"). The 3D model used has the legs upside down with them splitting towards the top of the building. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Jake is on the Moon, conversing with Patricia on Earth, there is no time lag in their responses; it is as if they are in the same room. However, the Moon is so far away that the wait time for a response is about 2.5 seconds.<br><br>Considering the many other advances made by reverse engineering the aliens' technology, it is however possible they are not using conventional radio for communication. <br>------------------------<br><br>David Levinson uses a satellite phone when all satellites are down. <br>------------------------<br><br>Flipped shot: During the air battle with the Queen, the numbers on Lt. Whitmore's fighter are backwards. <br>------------------------<br><br>At one point in the final air battle there is an obviously mirrored close-up shot of an ESD fighter, shown by the backwards numbers on the fuselage. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the President is notified of the moon base attack, she sees news footage of the burning alien ship, supposedly from a witness camera. However It's a recycled shot from the attack scene, with "broadcast" filters applied. There would not have been a camera on the backside of the ship. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the end of the movie when an alien fighters rear door opens Patricia starts firing her pistol, she fires two shots and the slide locks back, then in the next shot of her the slide is forward again without her reloading. <br>------------------------<br><br>The London Eye is not as close to Tower Bridge as seen when the alien ship is dropping debris all over the city. In fact, there are several more bridges between the Eye and Tower Bridge around bends in the river. It's possible they rebuilt all of the cities around the world in the last 20 years. Maybe London was rebuilt differently than before. The area around the new capital building in Washington are also different. <br>------------------------<br><br>When President Lanford and (most of) her Cabinet are killed in Cheyenne Mountain, it is said that the whole usual set of Presidential successors has been wiped out, so General Adams is sworn in instead. However, there is no legal provision for any member of the military to succeed to the office. The Presidential line of succession begins with the Vice President; then comes the Speaker of the House of Representatives; then the president pro tempore of the Senate; then Cabinet officers. (As per the 25th Amendment and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 (amended 2006).) Within the context of the movie timeline, the law may have been changed to add generals into the line of succession. <br>------------------------<br><br>In Independence Day it was implied that the aliens were an entire civilisation moving from planet to planet then they were obliterated. In this movie we hear that was just one of many mother ships that were destroyed. However, that is a mere implication. In ID4 President Whitmore had psychically connected with one of the alien pilots, and was getting a single alien soldier's point of view. A soldier that could have been indoctrinated.... There's no reason to state that this soldier's conveyed point of view, AND that there were other mother ships, are mutually exclusive. It was strongly inferred in ID4 but not expressly stated. <br>------------------------<br><br>When David's father is driving with the kids, the little girl says Area 51 is 75 miles away, then they find the bus with the other kids. From the radar General Adams tells David it's 9 minutes til the aliens get there. The bus gets there the same time as the queen's ship. Can a school bus do such speeds? <br>------------------------<br><br>The alien ship is 3000 miles across yet uses a drill only 1 mile wide to extract earth's core. That's akin to drilling for oil using a hypodermic needle. <br>------------------------<br><br>
